Night by night: why each pair fits
Nights 1 to 3: orange, white and red
Day 1, orange. The Surajmukhi jhumka is a large sunflower-shaped stud ringed with coloured stones, over a big dome jhumka with a bead fringe, and the Orange Pink colourway is made for an orange night. It is bold — about 9.5 cm long and listed at about 20 g — so treat it as an arrival-and-photographs pair.
Day 2, white. Pearls belong on white, and the Chandni chandbali hangs a deep fringe of white faux pearls under an oxidised crescent. It is also the heaviest pair here, about 40 g the pair. Monday 12 October is a working day for most people, and a shorter evening suits it.
Day 3, red. The Shakti jhumki is a long drop of stacked coin medallions bearing the goddess Durga's face, with small ghungroo bells, a dome jhumka and a cluster of ruby-red stones, in gold-tone and oxidised silver together. Red stones on red day, on the night of Chandraghanta.
Nights 4 to 6: royal blue, yellow and green
Day 4, royal blue. The Nritya peacock hoops are new this year: a flower stud set with coloured stones, a pair of peacocks, then an open round hoop ringed with stones and finished with a fringe of tiny ghungroo bells. The Royal Blue colourway matches Wednesday 14 October exactly, and the bells answer every clap of the garba.
Day 5, yellow. Yellow is the one night when all-silver-tone can look cool against the outfit. The Zar meenakari jhumka is gold-toned, so it picks up the yellow instead of contrasting with it. To stay oxidised, wear Shakti again — its gold-tone does the same job.
Day 6, green. The Mayura jhumka has a peacock-shaped stud set with red and green stones over a dome jhumka with a white bead fringe. At about 5–6.5 cm it is a classic jhumka length, short enough not to knock the jaw in a fast round — useful on a Friday, when many garba nights run late. Kalapi in Green is the closer colour match.
New for 2026: Nritya and Surajmukhi
Nights 7 to 9: grey, purple and peacock green
Day 7, grey. Oxidised silver-tone is already grey, so every pair here is on theme; choose by the evening. If Saturday 17 October is about photographs and slower garba, wear the Noor danglers: long chains from a floral top, ending in small ghungroo bells and reaching toward the shoulder. For fast dandiya raas, a medium jhumka stays put better.
Day 8, purple. Purple is one of six colourways of the Kalapi jhumki: an oxidised frame around a gold-tone peacock, coloured stones, and a dome jhumka with a white faux-pearl fringe. It is medium-sized with push-back closures, which suits Ashtami, when many families have a long day of puja before the evening starts.
Day 9, peacock green. Back to Nritya, this time in Turquoise. Turquoise sits between blue and green, close to the final night's colour, and a peacock earring suits peacock-green night.
Do you need nine pairs for nine nights?
No. All nine pairs in the plan come to ₹6,491, and most people get more from three or four pairs worn in rotation. Choose pairs that each cover several colours — one warm, one neutral, one cool — and arrange them so that no pair, and no earlobe, works two nights running.
| Night | Colour | Three pairs (₹2,097) | Four pairs (₹2,646) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Orange | Shakti | Surajmukhi, Orange Pink |
| 2 | White | Kalapi, White | Kalapi, White |
| 3 | Red | Shakti | Shakti |
| 4 | Royal Blue | Nritya, Turquoise | Nritya, Turquoise |
| 5 | Yellow | Shakti | Surajmukhi, Orange Pink |
| 6 | Green | Nritya, Turquoise | Nritya, Turquoise |
| 7 | Grey | Kalapi, White | Kalapi, White |
| 8 | Purple | Shakti | Shakti |
| 9 | Peacock Green | Nritya, Turquoise | Nritya, Turquoise |
- Shakti (₹849) is the warm pair. Its gold-tone and ruby-red stones carry orange, red and yellow, and red sits beside purple, so it takes Day 8 too.
- Kalapi in White (₹699) is the neutral pair. It suits white day and grey day, and stays calm against anything busy.
- Nritya in Turquoise (₹549) is the cool pair. Turquoise bridges royal blue, green and peacock green: three nights from one colourway.
- The fourth pair is for variety. Surajmukhi in Orange Pink takes the orange night and, as a sunflower, the yellow one, giving Shakti two nights off.
Kalapi comes in six colourways; our jhumka and chandbali guide goes through each. If you are ordering in the week before Navratri, start the rotation with a pair you already own and bring new ones in as they arrive.
Matching earrings to your chaniya choli and necklace
Colour is half the decision. The rest depends on what else you are wearing, and on whether you will dance garba in Gujarat until past midnight or stay at a society event for an hour.
- With a necklace set, wear its own earrings. Every choker set in the edit comes with a pair proportioned to the necklace; a second big pair meets the choker at the jaw. Our complete looks under ₹1,500 are built on that rule.
- With a bare neck, go big. Halter necks, heavily embroidered yokes and kediyu tops leave the ears to do the work. That is the night for Surajmukhi, Shakti or Noor.
- With mirror-work, let the earrings be metal. A chaniya choli covered in mirrors already sparkles, so an oxidised pair adds texture rather than more shine. Mirror-work and thread jewellery takes this further.
- With a dupatta over the head, choose a jhumka. A dome hangs clear of the fabric; a hoop or a long dangler catches in it.
- For dandiya raas, choose medium and secure. Sticks, spins and a partner close by are hard on long danglers — see dandiya night jewellery.
Every oxidised pair here is in oxidised earrings, all under ₹1,000; Zar is in the meenakari earrings collection.
Frequently asked questions
What earrings are best for Navratri garba?
Medium oxidised jhumkas with push-back or stud fittings are the most practical for three or four hours of garba, because the weight sits low and close to the ear. Kalapi and Mayura are our easiest pairs to dance in. Keep long danglers and heavy chandbalis for slower garba, shorter evenings and photographs, and wear them with wide support backs.
Which earrings go with each Navratri 2026 colour?
For 11–19 October: Surajmukhi in Orange Pink for orange, Chandni pearls for white, Shakti for red, Nritya in Royal Blue for royal blue, gold-toned Zar for yellow, Mayura for green, Noor for grey, Kalapi in Purple for purple and Nritya in Turquoise for peacock green. Plain oxidised pairs also work on any of the nine nights.
How many pairs of earrings do I need for nine nights of Navratri?
Three is enough. A warm pair, a neutral pair and a cool pair — for example the Shakti jhumki, Kalapi in White and Nritya in Turquoise, ₹2,097 together — cover all nine colours without wearing any pair two nights running. A fourth pair simply adds variety; nine separate pairs from our plan would cost ₹6,491.
Can I wear heavy earrings every night of Navratri?
It's better not to. Heavy pairs such as the Chandni chandbali, about 40 g the pair, put steady strain on the earlobe over a long evening. Wear them with wide silicone disc backs, keep them for shorter nights, and alternate with a medium jhumka so your ears get a lighter night in between.
Will earrings ordered now arrive before Navratri 2026 starts?
Possibly not. Orders are dispatched within 1–2 business days and delivered 4–7 business days after that, so a pair ordered in early October is more likely to arrive during the festival, which starts on 11 October, than before it. Plan new pairs for the later nights. Delivery is free and Cash on Delivery is available.
